3 public welfare projects inaugurated in Afghanistan’s Helmand

LASHKAR GAH, Afghanistan, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) — Afghan authorities have inaugurated three public welfare projects in southern Helmand province, the provincial information and culture department said in a statement on Thursday.
The projects, which include the construction of a recreational park and two water supply networks costing over 765,000 U.S. dollars, have been implemented on the outskirts of Lashkar Gah city, the capital of the province, the statement said.
The water networks would provide potable water to 2,000 local residents, it said.
On Tuesday, the country’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum signed a contract worth 163 million dollars for the construction of a cement plant in northern Jawzjan province.
The Afghan caretaker government plans to launch more development, welfare, and infrastructure projects across the war-ravaged country to tackle economic challenges and create job opportunities. ■
